  2. Just did a debrief with a client on how the Ed Adequacy Assessment for schools assessment tool I created worked out for them. They were exceptionally pleased with how comprehensive it was how easy it was to follow for Board Members of various backgrounds. This also included an assessment of the location of the school and impacts of an expansion of capacity within the existing neighborhood. I also summarized the Ed Adequacy deficiencies and required renovations, additions required to meet their curriculum needs with associated budgets. Some campuses was provided 2-3 options providing the School Board with some flexibility in decision making. A few schools the only option was to close the school. It was a straight up objective assessment of the relevance of the school for education in the future. This proved to be a more effective communication tool for those who intend to repurpose or replace schools than a facility condition assessment.

  3. We have worked with Ludlow CCSD 142 School District. They never knew where their finances were going to be each year so issuing bonds for projects were essentially off the table because of the financial risks is posed for the District. We implemented a window replacement plan where we did what we could at $25k-50k per summer over several years. This summer we are replacing the last of the windows. The differences have been huge. This was a 60’s structure with large spans of single pane windows. The thermal comfort of the classrooms was improved considerably. We have not calculated the energy savings but the improvement in teacher and student moods has generated a lot of positive feedback. With the Cares Act money being utilized this summer we are also removing the last of the 9×9 asbestos floor tile. Most of this is in the Gym and at the Stage. We will be installing a new Synthetic Sports floor that will be much better for the kids feet and knees. We also gain much better acoustics which will be good for the Stage performances. The new multi-sport Volleyball Equipment will provide 3-4 new sports for the kids too. Also planned are new Basketball backstops and bleachers.
